SCHOOL FOR GIRLS OF JELENA OF ANZHOU is the name of the project that corresponds to the advanced ideas of Jelena of Anjou, queen and nun, a Catholic woman who received a cult from the Orthodox Church, the first woman to rule an area of the country and the first woman to be honored in Serbian literature. Queen Jelena was the wife of King Uroš, the mother of Kings Dragutin and Milutin, and an important founder and benefactor. At her court, she had a school for poor girls, which is one of the earliest testimonies about the education of female children in medieval Serbia. It can be safely said that she represented not only one of the most enlightened, but also one of the most influential figures in Serbia at the end of the thirteenth and the beginning of the fourteenth century.
